Annotated Bibliographies by the Purdue University Online Writing Lab.

How to Prepare an Annotated Bibliography from Cornell University.

What is an annotated bibliography?

An annotated bibliography is often written to help you learn more about a subject as preparation for further research, or as a summary of research for for others to read. Researching for and writing an annotated bibliography gives you a good sense of the current research available on your topic.

An annotated bibliography has two parts - the citation and the description. Underneath the citation for each resource you choose, you describe and evaluate the source. Include why it is important for the research you are doing, including the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the source. The annotated bibliography page by Purdue OWL has comprehensive information on how to analyze and write about sources; it also includes several sample papers. Researching for and writing an annotated bibliography gives you a good sense of the current research available on your topic.
