Use all variations of a keyword.
Words change over time. Today we say Civil War but, in the past, it has been called the American Civil War, War between the States, War of Secession, and War of the Rebellion. If you searched only the term Civil War, you might miss valuable documents written during a different era.
The Library of Congress Authorities and Vocabularies thesaurus will help you find variations of keywords and subject headings.
Search Google to find keywords related to your topic.
When searching the library catalog, Prospector, and WorldCat, try to
1. Use broad keywords from your class reading to begin your search.
2. Refine your searches by adding or removing keywords.
3. Click on the subject headings of interesting books to find similar materials.
4. Try the Library of Congress Authorities and Vocabularies thesaurus to find variations of keywords and subject headings.
The book I want is not available in Tutt and I can't wait for Prospector or ILL.
Search the catalogs of UCCS Library or Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD)
It's 5AM and I need one more book for my paper.
Try Google Books -- the book you need may have full or partial viewing.

Use the CC library catalog to find books, DVDs, and other things in our local collection, as well as links to online resources such as ebooks and streaming video.
