How to View an E-Book

E-books in the Tutt Library catalog are all fully viewable.  However, in order to view a book, you may be asked to log-in.  There is not an institutional log-in.  You need to create a personal log-in, and then the full-text of the book should be available to you. You can then download the book for a specified amount of time.  The tabs on this page provide step-by-step instructions.

What Are E-Books?

What is an E-book?

An E-Book is an electronic version of a traditional print book that can be read by using a personal computer or by using an E-reader.

What are some of the benefits of E-books?

E-books offer many benefits over traditional printed materials. They usually cost less to purchase and maintain then print books, allowing libraries to provide more content to patrons within the same budget. E-books do not take up shelf space, cannot be lost and are available 24/7. In most cases e-books are searchable, allowing users to find information within the book quickly. After setting up an account, you may take notes on specific pages, create a bookshelf and download a book for a specified amount of time. Due to copyright law, printing is limited to a portion of the book.

What E-books do you have at Tutt Library?

We receive books through what are called e-book aggregators.  Each aggregator works with a wide variety of publishers.  At Tutt, we have books through several different platforms: ProQuest Ebook Central, Springer Link, Science Direct, Oxford Scholarship Online, and Gale.  Each has a different interface, but generally similar functions.

 How to I find E-books?

All e-books can be found in the catalog or OneSearch.  Each ebook might look a little different.  and will have a status of "ON-LINE" and location "E-Books".  The call # indicates which platform this ebook belongs to.  Click "View electronic book" (under 'web links') to access the ebook.  An ebook in the catalog might look like this:
