Comparative Literature Thesis: Home

Break out of the block!

It can be hard to get your head around a thesis project when you are used to the block plan.

Many of the sections on this guide are designed to help you brek out of the block and think about research and writing that takes months to accomplish.

  • It's OK if you can't get a source immediately: that's what Prospector and Interlibrary Loan are for.
  • It's OK if you can't keep track of everything in your head from block to block. Use RefWorks and database accounts to keep track of useful citations.
  • It's OK if you hit some rough patches. I'm here to help.

Use Tiger to find books & more at Colorado College

Search Tiger by

Tiger, the CC library catalog, will tell you what we own (books, DVDs, CDs, etc.) or subscribe to (journals, databases, etc.) at Colorado College. It will not help you find articles in journals.

At the beginning of Block One 2017, books will not yet be available for you to browse and check out yourself. You can continue to use the red "REQUEST ITEM" button in Tiger, and you will be able to pick the book up at the Tutt Library circulation desk ion the first floor later that day, or the next day. The library website has more information about requesting books, including the schedule

Use Prospector to request books & more from across Colorado

If you can't find a book, DVD, CD, or other item you need in Tiger, you can use Prospector to search libraries across Colorado and then request that they be sent to the Tutt Library circulation desk for you to check out here.

Interlibrary Loan

A quick distinction:

Prospector is the system that lets you find books (and DVDs and other things) in libraries across Colorado. It's the name of both the catalog and the service. Prospector loans usually take 3-5 business days to get to Tutt Library from the time you order them.

Interlibrary Loan (or ILL) is the name of the service that lets you borrow books (and other things) and get journal articles and chapters from libraries across the country and around the world.

There is no single ILL database or catalog, though for books you will want to use WorldCat. For articles and chapters, you can use any database that is appropriate for your research.

For Prospector, you already have an account if you can check out books at CC. You'll just use your TIGER number at the bottom of your Gold Card.

For ILL, you must register a new account for Illiad, our ILL system (ILL-iad, get it?). You can get started on the login screen, just follow the directions for first-time users.

Search for an item in thousands of libraries: >>

When the materials you want are not available in TIGER or Prospector, you can search in WorldCat and request them through Interlibrary Loan.

  • WorldCat lists library holdings throughout the nation
  • Requests require an ILL account
  • Items usually arrive in 5-10 business days
